Cable knit來自何處？
對於經典的Cable knit (麻花編織)，大家可能都以為它已經出現了很長時間，但其實它只有大約150年的歷史，起源可以追溯到大西洋中的一個小島嶼 -亞蘭群島（Aran Islands）。
亞蘭群島（Aran Islands）是愛爾蘭西海岸外的三個小島。傳說第一批居住在亞蘭群島上的人是來自愛爾蘭大陸的流亡者，他們移居到島上之後以捕魚為生，這就是Cable knit (麻花編織) 毛衣來自於阿蘭群島的原因之一。
Cable knit 的前身 --"guernsey jumper"毛衣
1890年，島民從愛爾蘭大陸引進了一款名為 "guernsey jumper" 的毛衣，這款毛衣是為了漁民和海員加強保暖及抵禦海洋的惡劣天氣而製造的。設計上會使用立領和羅紋袖口，以抵擋強風，而袖口更刻意要短於手腕，以免被捕魚工具絆住，並避免在工作時被海水沾濕。
Cable knit 的演變
由於亞蘭群島的島民無法用精細羊毛製造 "guernsey jumper" 毛衣，所以改為使用當地出產的厚羊毛製作，並漸漸增加更多的麻花織紋及結構，慢慢演變成現今大家看到的 cable knit。直至1958年，一位英國著名的女性編織家 Zimmermann 在《 Vogue》刊登了 "Aran jumper" (即cable knit) 的介紹，當中更包含圖案織紋分享，在文章推出不久之後，cable knit 在美國越來越受歡迎，成為秋冬的服飾選擇之一，也成為一種時尚宣言。
